Beloved actress Christina Applegate has recently dropped a hint that she may be retiring soon. The star of the hit Netflix series Dead to Me and a multiple sclerosis (MS) survivor, Applegate revealed to the Los Angeles Times that her last performance as an actor would most likely be at the SAG Awards.

In a heartwarming moment, Applegate graced the red carpet alongside her 12-year-old daughter, Sadie Grace, at the gala on February 27. Walking with a cane that proudly bore the letters “FU MS,” Christina showcased her resilience and the new normal she has embraced.

Despite being nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series for her role as Jen Harding in Dead to Me, Applegate shared that we may not see much of her on our screens in the future. Reflecting on her decision, she mentioned, “It’s my last awards show as an actor probably, so it’s kind of a big deal.”

The actress went on to explain that her current reality, battling MS, makes it challenging for her to envision the demanding schedule of an actor. The early mornings and long hours on set are not something she feels capable of at the moment.

While filming the third and final season of Dead to Me in 2021, Applegate received her MS diagnosis. Despite the setback, she remained determined to complete the series, taking a break when necessary for treatment. However, it wasn’t until months after the show’s release that she was able to watch herself in her iconic role in Married with Children. Seeing her struggles on screen didn’t sit well with her.

Applegate candidly shared, “Also, I gained 40 lbs. because of inactivity and medications, and I didn’t look like myself, and I didn’t feel like myself.” Returning to the set after her health battle, she realized the toll it had taken on her. While she found solace in her trailer during breakdowns, the crew showed unwavering support and understanding.

Looking towards the future, Applegate acknowledges that finding her limits and capabilities is essential. As she adjusts to living with a chronic illness, she contemplates what her next steps will be. The actress shared, “I have to find a place that’s as loving as my set was, where they won’t think I’m a diva by saying, ‘Hey, I can only work five hours.’”

Though uncertain about acting, Applegate reveals her desire to delve into producing and developing projects. She has a multitude of ideas that she hopes to bring to life. However, if those avenues don’t bear fruit, she envisions herself doing voice-overs to support her daughter and herself financially.
