The COVID-19 pandemic sure did place a sour twist of fate onto many people’s plans. Some had to put plans on hold they had been looking forward to for months, and even years. Savings for trips overseas were spent as survival money for many. Moreover, lovers had to put a pause on wedding arrangements.

One bride had to cull many people off her wedding guest list due to the restrictions from the pandemic. So, she could only invite the few she deemed important to her. However, she received a wedding RSVP from her aunt, which left an even more sour taste in her mouth. She posted a picture of the RSVP on Reddit, and it went viral.

Sour Wedding RSVP

The bride in this story was extremely hurt after she received the wedding RSVP from her aunt, Edith. Reportedly, the bride had to be very strict with her wedding invites because of the restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Her wedding was scheduled to happen in 2020. If you think back to that time, there was a lot of fear and uncertainty in the air. She was only able to invite 50 people. This is a sheer drop in numbers for many people in terms of wedding norms.

Aunt Edith was shocked to see that her boyfriend, Danny, was not included in the invite. She was so appalled at the idea of him not being invited, that she spitefully sent her wedding RSVP back to the bride. It now had rude remarks written all over it. The bride decided to post the wedding RSVPon Reddit. It quickly went viral, and the internet was leering over Aunt Edith’s petty attitude.

Maid of Honor to the Rescue

The bride’s maid of honor got involved in the comments for the wedding RSVP and added to the defense of her friend. To clarify, she said that Aunt Edith and Danny had only been dating for two years. Additionally, she added that Danny was “unpleasant,” to say the least. “OP’s maid of honor here,” wrote Art3miss_Gunter. “To clarify, the limit for indoor gatherings in our area is 50, due to covid. Aunt Edith is OP’s fiance’s aunt, who has been dating Danny for two years. Danny has played no significant role in their lives, they have met this man a handful of times. Danny is unpleasant and tolerated at best. They do not see him as an uncle. Further to this, all guests were told prior to invite that numbers were reduced to bare bones due to covid restrictions.

Internet Sided With the Bride

One person commented on the bride’s post of the wedding RSVP with their own similar experience: “How dramatic!” they wrote. “I have a cousin who hasn’t spoken to me since I said he couldn’t bring his girlfriend who I had never met to my wedding that was at my house. My aunt (his mother) also gives me the cold shoulder even when I’m right next to them.”

Another person said: “This is just a win-win. I always hated the idea of being forced to invite people just because they’re related. Fuck that noise. A wedding is your day to celebrate. I purposely didn’t invite my racist cousin to my wedding and they haven’t spoken to me in years. Turned out to be a better wedding present than a physical gift! You should only invite the people who you think will make the celebration more fun. It stops it from being a stuffy formal affair.”

Then, another person commented on the wedding RSVP: “Good riddance. Easier said than done of course, but that’s not an energy you want on your special day.” Lastly, a fourth person wrote: “Oh my….looks like a bullet dodged for you guys.”
