Tucker Carlson attacked Joy Reid after she attacked him during a live show by bringing up his great-great-grandfather. The Fox News host got “personal” and didn’t hold back when he said that MSNBC “is an elaborate parody!”
Tucker Carlson was shocked in January 2018 when he saw a piece on Joy Reid’s show. The MSNBC host actually paid a genealogist to look into the Fox News host’s family tree to find out who his relatives were and how they got to the United States.
It was said that Reid had attacked Carlson and said that his opinions and words about immigration were the same as white supremacy. Reid, who was in charge of a group, asked Jennifer Mendelsohn about some of the study she had done on Tucker Carlson. Mendelsohn said that the Fox News host’s great-great-grandfather had written about his own problems in Europe and how that made him want to move to the United States.
Mendelsohn told Carlson some of what Carlson’s great-great-grandfather wrote in his diary. “He talked about how things didn’t look good for him in his home country of Switzerland. He had a strong desire to leave, which is why he came to the US in 1860,” she said. “People who don’t know much about genealogy shouldn’t throw stones.”
“Absolutely, and Tucker has been one of the most outspoken in putting forward what many people have seen as a pretty clear white nationalist view of how immigration should work,” Reid said in reaction. Tucker Carlson heard about Reid’s show and chose to talk about it on his own show.
Carlson started by saying, “Joy Reid talked to a historian who had done research on my family. “It seems that one of my relatives came to this country from Switzerland in the year 1860. “I didn’t even know that until Reid’s show, because I don’t care about it at all,” he said. “That was more than 150 years ago,” he said. “And has nothing to do with the choices I make as a father, a citizen, or a worker at Fox News. It tells us nothing at all about how we handle immigrants today. Since the Civil War, the American economy has changed a lot, but MSNBC doesn’t want to talk about that.
“If you had one Swiss relative in the 19th century, you now have to pay for green cards for everyone who jumps the border or stays longer than their visa lets them,” Carlson said. “Boom! Problem solved. “People who don’t know much about genealogy shouldn’t throw stones,” said Reid’s friend. That’s me. As is so often the case, it’s hard to tell if this is a real point of argument or if it was all part of a joke. “DACA as told by Monty Python.”
Carlson goes on after he plays the clip from Joy Reid’s show. So, Joy Reid is saying that we are racist, he says. “Let’s take a moment to think about how funny that is. Reid’s whole public career has been based on stoking up racial tensions. Try watching 20 minutes of her show and you’ll see for yourself. This is the woman who told the Democratic Party to give up on white people who voted for Obama and Trump because their votes weren’t worth fighting for.
“So when Joy Reid says you have racist thoughts, you can trust me that she is making that up,” Tucker said. “However, it’s also a political move. Reid can’t explain why this country needs to bring in millions more poor people. No one on the left can, because there is no answer. So, they use nicknames to try to end the talk. That’s too bad. Immigration problems. It decides who gets to live in this country, who gets to vote for our government, and what our future will be. It’s hard to think of a more important public policy issue.”
