Although both of them are misunderstood, they are not afraid to face the outside world and prove them wrong. This is the couple behind the YouTube channel, Squirmy and Grubs. Let’s take a peek at their love story.

Shane Burcaw was born with spinal muscular atrophy and has been in a wheelchair since he was 2 years old. Hannah Aylward, who was then a college student, learned about Shane and his disability through a documentary. At that instant, she became interested in Shane and took the initiative to contact him.

Later, they began sending emails to each other and learned that their values, life preferences, and personal feelings were mutual and discovered they were compatible. They met personally soon after, became friends, and eventually started a relationship. They often shared their daily life as a couple on social networking sites and gave pieces of advice on how a couple should handle a disabled person in a relationship. Netizens were inspired by them, and their social media pages garnered more than 130,000 followers in half a year.

Although the couple became popular through their online videos, malicious-minded people left hurtful comments and said that the woman had mischievous intentions in the relationship and only after the man’s fame and property. Shane learned about this and firmly stated that he was touched by Hannah’s emails and believed that she had a good personality.

“After seeing what happened to him and getting to know him, I fell in love with him deeply,” Hannah said. “I want to take care of him, and I am willing to help him push the wheelchair for the rest of his life.” Her sincerity moved many people.

Shane and Hannah got married in September 2020. Since they planned to make a family, the couple tried to conceive naturally for 2 years, but to no avail due to Shane’s atrophy on his lower body. However, they pushed through with their plans for a family and recently announced their plan to have a baby through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), in hopes that one day they may have a baby of their own and their family would be complete.
