Kelly Clarkson ‘not above spanking’ her kids if they misbehave.

Have you ever experienced spanking as a child? The use of spanking as a form of discipline has sparked quite a debate, with The American Academy of Pediatrics stating that it is both ineffective and harmful. Nevertheless, some parents, including singer Kelly Clarkson, still choose to use this method.

In a radio interview back in 2019, Kelly, who is a mother to two children, River Rose, 8, and Remy, 6, shared her perspective on the topic. She mentioned that she “is not above spanking” when it comes to discipline. “I don’t mean hitting her hard,” she clarified. “I just mean a little spanking.”

Having grown up with this practice, she feels comfortable with it and sees no issue in using it as a form of discipline.

Kelly, who grew up in Texas, shared her perspective on discipline, saying, “My parents spanked me, and I turned out just fine. I feel good about it.”

She explained, “Being from the South, spankings are part of our upbringing. If I ever found myself in the principal’s office, my mom would call ahead and give her permission to spank me. I consider myself a well-rounded person with strong character, so I believe it’s perfectly acceptable.”

Clarkson, a talented singer, songwriter, author, and TV personality, recently celebrated receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The American Idol alum acknowledged that her parenting style can be seen as controversial, especially when it comes to disciplining her kids in public settings.

“It can be tricky when you’re out and about because people often judge, thinking it’s wrong. But I see nothing wrong with a spanking,” she remarked. “I do believe in it, so you might just see me giving my child a little smack at the zoo.” However, she makes sure to give her kids a heads-up beforehand.

I said something like, “Hey, if you don’t cut it out right now, I’m going to give you a little smack on the bottom because this is just too much,” and honestly, it’s made a difference. She doesn’t act out like that as frequently anymore.

What are your thoughts on Kelly Clarkson’s approach to disciplining kids? Do you believe that everyone should have the freedom to discipline their children in their own way?
