Poisoned Easter Eggs Sent To Ex’s New Family — 7-Year-Old Tragically Dies

After reportedly poisoning Easter eggs and delivering them to her ex-boyfriend’s new family, a lady in Brazil was arrested on suspicion of killing a seven-year-old boy.

Authorities claim that Jordélia Pereira Barbosa, 35, was driven by “revenge and jealousy” when she purchased, tampered with, and sent the chocolate to her ex-partner’s new lover.

Her ex’s new girlfriend, Mirian Lira, as she is known in Brazilian media, received the eggs on Wednesday and gave them to her children.

They were bought to her home by a motorcycle courier, reportedly accompanied with a note which read: “With love, to Mirian Lira. Happy Easter.”

Luis Fernando Rocha Silva, Lira’s small child, appeared unwell almost immediately. His mother hurried him to Imperatriz City Hospital, where he passed away in the wee hours of Thursday.

Along with her 13-year-old daughter, Evelyn Fernanda, his 32-year-old mother is still in critical condition at the hospital; both are reportedly intubated and in severe condition.

Reports state that forensic experts have sent samples of the chocolate eggs to rule out poisoning.

Barbosa stayed at a motel in Imperatriz, the city where her ex-boyfriend’s family is headquartered 200 miles from her home, before being detained on an intercity bus bound for her town of Santa Inês.

As part of their inquiry, police allegedly located purchase receipts and spoke with Barbosa’s ex-partner, who allegedly suggested that his ex might be involved.

Police also released CCTV footage they claimed showed Barbosa shopping for chocolate eggs while sporting dark sunglasses and a black wig to conceal her dyed blond hair.

She is seen carrying the box of upscale eggs at the counter as she begins searching through her bag for a valid credit card.

Barbosa allegedly admitted purchasing the chocolate in a statement at the Santa Inês Regional Police Station, but he denied adding poison.

Nonetheless, authorities and law enforcement have maintained that there is enough proof to identify Barbosa as the main suspect in the purported scheme.

“The evidence suggests, based on several points investigated, that the crime was motivated by revenge and jealousy, given that the author’s ex-husband is the current partner or boyfriend of the victim, who was poisoned along with her two children,” Maurício Martins, a security official in the area, told news outlet G1.

“There are several indications that clearly point to this woman being the perpetrator of the crime.”

“The police will continue working to strengthen this evidence and present her to the Judiciary to answer for this barbaric crime.”

Following the delivery of the eggs, Lira allegedly got an anonymous call inquiring as to whether she had received the shipment.

The police investigating Barbosa reportedly found two wigs, receipts, cards, scissors, a saw knife, and what appeared to be drugs.

The Imperatriz’s Legal Medical Institute anticipates that Luis’s autopsy will show that poisoning was the cause of his death.

Additionally, laboratory testing on the egg remnants and blood tests on the two survivors are being conducted.
