The first Arctic outbreak of the season is set to sweep across the US during Thanksgiving…

The season’s first Arctic outbreak is plunging temperatures across the U.S., with some areas experiencing a drop of up to 25°F below normal. The icy air, originating from Siberia, is sweeping through most of the continental U.S., bringing snow to the Great Lakes and Northeast and freezing conditions as far south as the Gulf Coast.

The National Weather Service warns of “dangerous wind chills” in the Upper Midwest and heavy snowfall around the Great Lakes. This sudden freeze threatens infrastructure, agriculture, and ecosystems, with risks like frozen pipes and crop damage.

Thanksgiving travelers face significant challenges, including rain in the East, snow in the Northeast, and freezing weather in the South. AAA predicts record travel numbers but urges caution, particularly on icy and wet roads.

Residents are advised to take precautions, including protecting exposed pipes, staying warm indoors, and using extra care while traveling during this early Arctic blast.
