Dr. Phil’s opens up about traumatic childhood and confirms sad truth

Dr. Phil spoke openly about the pain of growing up in an abusive home during an appearance on The Coach Mike Podcast last year, which is hosted by famous life coach Mike Bayer.

We moved around a lot, the television star said. My dad was an alcoholic, so we relocated every two to three years.

Dr. Phil continued by saying that he made an effort to stay away from his father as much as he could during those years because his father was prone to erratic mood swings and unsettling behaviour as a result of his drinking.

“[I] came and went through the bedroom window so I didn’t have to go through the house. It was total chaos…Yelling, screaming violence, domestic violence,” Dr. Phil shared.

However, for the future television host, things would get worse before they got better. Only a select few people can understand the degree of poverty Dr. Phil faced throughout his teenage years.

Dr. Phil admitted, “I’ve been homeless,” in 2021. “I’ve lived on Kansas City’s streets… I have camped out in cardboard boxes.

He did, however, meet Oprah Winfrey in 1996. Dr. Phil was retained by Winfrey to represent her at trial while she was being sued for defaming the beef business on one of her episodes. She would ultimately prevail in court, and Dr. Phil quickly started appearing regularly on The Oprah Winfrey Show following that.

After four years, he started his own show. As they say, the rest is history. After receiving 24 nominations for Emmys and seeing years of extraordinarily high ratings, Dr. Phil is now well-known all over the world. When he married, his love life also improved.

“I actually knew that first evening I sat and visited with him that he was The One,” his wife told Closer in an exclusive interview back in April 2018.

“We talked about our needs, and I told him that I couldn’t be married in a home with conflict. My mother and father never raised their voices, and my father adored my mother, so I had to know that I was loved and adored. I told him I don’t live in a fairy tale, but I needed to be treated with dignity and respect.”

I don’t know about you, but I find Dr. Phil to be a motivational figure who demonstrates the power of perseverance and hard effort.
