The world has been watching carefully as many people are rescued in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Perhaps that is why others were interested in how a donkey would fare in a similar situation.
The founder of Animal Haven Sanctuary in Ireland had recently heard about a donkey that was stuck in floodwaters. Susan Gibbons knew that something needed to be done because the storm had broken the gate of the donkey’s enclosure and he became trapped in the rising water.
When Gibbons was contacted by the owner of the donkey, they explained the seriousness of the situation and asked her to assist. She knew that something had to be done quickly so she went on Facebook to ask for help.
In order to save the donkey, some strong men, a boat, and rope would be needed. It didn’t take long for people to come to the rescue of the animal, and they rallied around to supply the manpower and supplies necessary.
At first, Gibbons was concerned that people were not going to help because of the severity of the floodwaters. It was then that Mike Flemings, a member of a local rowing club offered his boat and his help.
The rescue was a success but what is more, the donkey showed his appreciation to the rescuers. It was a moment that was caught on video and people could not believe how beautiful it was.
