Loretta Lynn’s Family Is “Grateful” For “Love” As They Grieve The Death Of Singer’s First Grandchild

Loretta Lynn’s first grandchild, Lynn Massey, has passed away following “a long and difficult health battle.”

The late singer’s family shared the heartbreaking news in a social media post on August 23rd.

“Betty Sue’s daughter Lynn Massey, Loretta’s first grandchild, passed away this week after a long and difficult health battle. Our family is so grateful for the prayers and love continually shown to us,” they wrote on Loretta’s official Instagram page.

The family has not shared information about Lynn’s diagnosis or cause of death.

According to People, the legendary country music star welcomed her first grandchild when she was only 34. Lynn was the daughter of Loretta’s first child, Betty Sue. Betty named her daughter after her mother.

Betty Sue passed in 2013 at 64 years old following complications from emphysema. Before her death, she had forged her own career in music as a songwriter. Betty wrote some of Loretta Lynn’s most memorable songs, such as The Home You’re Tearin’ Down and Wine, Women and Song.

Friends And Fans Remember Loretta Lynn’s Grandchild, Lynn Massey

On Instagram, friends and fans paid tribute to Lynn Massey and remembered her as kind and generous.

“Betty Sue was a Very Sweet Young Lady,” someone wrote in the original posts’ comments. “I Liked talking to her. She could sing. I Loved Lis.”

Loretta Lynn preceded her granddaughter’s death on October 4, 2022. She was 90 years old.
