It’s been quite some time since the movie Face-Off has been at the theaters. It was a powerhouse, with Nicolas Cage and John Travolta playing in the same film.
The film itself shows Travolta, who plays the part of Sean Archer on a mission to capture a terrorist, Nicolas Cage, who plays Castor Troy. It seems as if Troy is responsible for the death of his son. It’s a setup for quite a thriller.
After Troy is apprehended, he goes into a coma. Archer then goes through an experimental procedure to swap faces with Troy so we can infiltrate the criminal organization. When Troy wakes up from a coma, he sees that he has Archer’s face so he takes over his life.
This film was quite a success and it was one of the highest-grossing films of 1997. Rotten Tomatoes still gives it a great score of 93.
In 2019, Paramount Pictures said that it had plans for another film by the same name and they announced in 2021 it will be a sequel to the first film.
The word is out that both Travolta and Cage will be returning to the project that is going to be directed by Adam Wingard.
Previously, Nicolas Cage said that he had a meeting about the film but hadn’t heard anything about it since then. He also spoke about how he thought the movie would be played out, saying: “I think Face/Off is a sequel that lends itself to a lot of twists and turns and unpredictability.”
“It’s almost like if you factor in the idea of offspring and Castor and Sean having children and these children grow up, then it becomes like three-dimensional chess, and then it’s not just the two, John Travolta and myself, it’s four of us ping-ponging and going at different levels, and it becomes even more complex.”
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
