For a number of people, preparing a meal is just a chore they do for the sake of keeping themselves and their family fed. For others, cooking represents a whole new world, one where they can play with various ingredients, elevate flavors, and prepare stunning meals, almost restaurant like.
If you belong to the latter, this article is for you.
Mashed potatoes have always served as a side dish that adds richness to the main meal. This dish, which is rather easy to make, can also be elevated to a level that would leave your family members and guests stunned, wanting for more.
Apparently, TikTok user Jourdyn, or @jeauxp, has shared a trick about preparing the most delicious mashed potatoes there are, and people love it so much that it has gone viral.
The trick is so simple that you may wonder how you never thought of it yourself; use chicken stock instead of water to boil your potatoes. Also, leave the skin on as it would add a rusting texture that is hard to resist.
What’s most, inspired by the TikTok video, other users tried more unconventional ways of preparing their mashed potatoes, such as adding a sour cream and chives.
Now if you are bold enough to try different preparations, here are some more suggestions.
When cooking, use oils infused with herbs, garlic, or chili peppers. Simply slightly heat the oil and add all of your favorite flavorings, then let it sit overnight. Before using, strain it and add it to your dishes. You can also infuse vinegar with citrus peels or berries fro richer flavor.
Before cooking meat, brine it in a solution of salt, sugar, and water. This will add additional flavor to the poultry or pork.
Just like with the mashed potatoes, you can also cook different grains, such as rice and quinoa, in chicken, beef, or vegetable stock.
If you are a fan of garlic, use it with various dishes, but roast it first in order to extract a nice caramelized flavor.
It’s truly stunning how a simple variation of ingredients can add a touch to the dishes as we know them.
