Although there are many actors that may get our attention, it always seems as if Keanu Reeves gets the spotlight for the right reasons. He is more than an actor, he is a kind individual and known for being the sweetheart of Hollywood.
Back in 2009, he attended the LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles with artist Alexandra Grant. It wasn’t long before they made the headlines, mostly because Keanu was 55 years old at the time and he was dating somebody that was close to his age.
Although many people didn’t know it at the time, the two of them had actually had a friendship that had lasted for years. They were together for a few years and it seems as if she was a very important part of his life.
In fact, many people were surprised to see him hanging out with someone that was age-appropriate. That is especially true considering many Hollywood men will date women that were much younger. They were even more surprised when they saw the 46-year-old woman living with her gray hair.
In Hollywood, many people will hide their gray hair in any way possible. For Alexandra, however, gray hair was a part of her life for a very important reason. It’s also a reason that many people don’t realize.
When she was asked about it, she let people know how important it was to maintain her health. She spoke about the fact that many people have developed cancer as a result of using hair dye, so she decided to stick with her natural color.
She spoke about this on an Instagram post that has since been deleted. She quoted a Newsweek article that was entitled: “Breast Cancer Linked to Permanent Hair Dye and Chemical Hair Straighteners in Study of Almost 50,000 Women.”
That was what inspired her to continue to keep their hair gray. She went on to caption the post: “Wow. Today’s news… The numbers are staggering, especially for womxn of color.”
“I went gray prematurely in my early 20’s … and dyed my hair every color along the way until I couldn’t tolerate the toxicity of the dyes any more,” Alexandra wrote. “In my 30’s I let my hair turn ‘blonde’… I love and support that every womxn can choose how she wants to look at every age. But/and, if womxn are perishing from beauty standards… then let’s talk about those beauty standards. Love to all womxn!”
We applaud her wanting to stand up for what she believes in. Who knows, she may even be a trendsetter that could inspire many others to follow in her footsteps.
