It’s hard to believe that we have been watching the 2024 Olympics in Paris for two weeks. It’s always nice when we see someone standing up and winning, but there are plenty who fell short of the mark as well.
When somebody works so hard in order to be part of such a big event, you can’t help but feel empathy when they aren’t included with the winners. Every person who competes at the games is among the best worldwide, but there is only one person who wins the gold.
Sometimes we get to see how this affects individuals, and this includes British diver Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix. Recently, she came in sixth in the individual final and the 19-year-old was distraught.
Andrea wasn’t on her own, however, because her father, Fred Sirieix was there to help her to cope with the situation. They shared a touching moment together and it was caught on video.
Fred was there to console his daughter, who was trying her best to hold back the tears. You could tell that she was having a difficult time with the loss.
It wasn’t just her father who helped her on that day, there were many who were inspired by the teenager and how hard she worked in order to be part of the games. They were there to encourage her online, and she was appreciative.
Andrea had gone through a difficult time just the past year when she said that she didn’t want to live. She has now embraced life in a beautiful way.
“I’ve got breath. I’ve got food on the table. I’ve got water in my cup, and I’ve got a roof over my head. So, you know, sometimes the Olympic medal isn’t everything. We’ve got other things, so we really should be more thankful and those are the things that we unfortunately take for granted. I feel like there’s a lot of struggles there. Everyone doesn’t see, and we push through silently,” she said.
