Kabosu The Viral Meme Dog Has Died

We all love our dogs but there is a problem we must face when it comes to pet ownership, the fact that they don’t live a long life. Losing a dog can be a very difficult problem, and it can even be an issue if you don’t know the dog personally.

One dog that is known by millions of people around the world is Kabosu. As the dog behind the viral ‘doge’ meme, people have not only used her face, they have done so in some very unique and humorous ways.

Many people who are familiar with the meme don’t even know her name, but now the Internet is saddened because Kabosu has passed away at the age of 18.

About a decade ago, the Japanese Shiba Inu went viral online and is now part of an iconic image. In the meme, Kabosu is giving you the side eye, and the Internet couldn’t avoid using the picture in many different ways.

Essentially, the meme became known as doge, and they would often caption the picture to describe almost any situation in life. It didn’t matter if you were stuck in the car in traffic for if you had a rough day at school, Kabosu was there to help you make better.

This dog became so well known that they even used her for the logo for Dogeco, a cryptocurrency that was originally a joke. You can find her face almost anywhere.

Unfortunately, she began to experience a decline in her health and was diagnosed with liver disease and leukemia. Her owner, Atsuko Sato went on Instagram on May 24 to announce her death.

“To all of you who loved Kabosu, on the morning of the 24 May, Kabosu crossed the rainbow bridge,” Sato wrote.

“Thank you all so much for your support over the years. She went very peacefully without suffering, as if falling asleep while feeling the warmth of my hands petting her.”

The caption continued: “Thank you all so much for loving Kabosu all these years. I am certain Kabosu was the happiest dog in the world. That makes me the happiest owner in the world.

“I would like to express my deepest appreciation to everyone who has sent us much love to us.”

Sato adopted the dog in 2008 after she was sent to an animal shelter. She is a teacher in Japan and she was comforted by the many tributes and condolences that came to her on Instagram.

May she rest in peace.
