We sometimes find ourselves in a situation where we are facing criticism. This can often happen in real life, but it happens even more for those who put themselves out there on social media.
One mother who knows all about criticism is Amber Wright. She regularly posts pictures of herself and her son on Instagram, and she has had some criticism along the way.
Although the criticism is usually because she shows a little more than she should in her posts, there was a video that really took a sour note for many of her followers. It was after a football game when her 16-year-old son, Brixton, shared a hug with her.
This wasn’t just a normal hug, she wrapped her entire body around him as he held her. It was something that undoubtedly was a close moment between a mother and son, but it also is something that people didn’t like very much.
Because of people who have talked down to them about the hug, she has had to defend herself. There were many questions asked about the state of the relationship between Amber and her son, and some of them were inappropriate.
In order to deal with the backlash, Amber went back on Instagram with a new video. She said that it was nothing more than ‘literally a hug’ between a mother and son.
She said: “If you’re one of those people that happens to see something immoral or sexual or wrong with it, then I’m just going to say that’s on you.”
She also said that many of the comments were disgraceful, crude, and disrespectful. Despite the fact that people were not happy with what she posted, she said she didn’t do anything wrong and would leave the video up.
Brixton also wrote on Instagram after the video went viral. He said: “She’s my mom she is my hero the vid of us hugging was an HUG. Go bother someone else and maybe hug your own kids.”
Amber also spoke to TODAY, saying that Brixton was wearing the football jersey featuring the death of his late father, April 4 for the first time on the field. She was a proud mom hugging her kid.
She was shocked but people said she was grooming or sexually abusing his son. Others were threatening to call child protective services.
I guess we are all entitled to an opinion and if you put something on social media, you’re going to hear it.
