In a lighthearted on-air dispute, the longtime ‘Today’ anchor and weatherman stated that he showers twice a day, although dermatologists recommend a couple of times a week.

Today host Al Roker did not hold back on his disagreement with a dermatologist’s recommendation on how frequently to shower.

During the third hour of Tuesday’s broadcast, Roker and co-hosts Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer engaged in a lighthearted conversation about how frequently people should wash, after Adrianna Barrionuevo Brach, the editorial director of Shop TODAY, stated that dermatologists advocate showering two to three times per week.“I don’t care what they say, I’m going to say ‘A,’” Roker declared, referring to the option for a daily shower. As Brach explained that skincare professionals recommend showering fewer times per week, Roker couldn’t hide his contempt.

“The general consensus is two to three times per week, but it depends on the individual.” I’m looking at Al, wondering, ‘What is this?’” Brach said. “It depends on the person, their lifestyle, their skin time, their age, and their activity level.”Shower frequency is a personal preference, according to Brach, to which Roker responds, “Not if you come into contact with other people!”Dryer and Jones both showed displeasure with the idea, with Jones observing, “There are seven days in a week,” and Dryer wondered if the number was for children or adults because, as she put it, “Adults smell.”Jones subsequently changed her mind and stated that she could see how the idea made sense in terms of conserving the skin’s natural oils and preventing dry skin.

“You have this natural bacteria that live all over your skin, it’s part of your microbiome, and you don’t want to compromise that because it does help to sort of protect you,” Brach stated. “When you’re scrubbing and using soap and harsh detergents — I can’t stop looking at Al — things could get dicey.”Roker concluded the debate by admitting he showers twice a day, which Jones called “too much.”

The hosts proceeded with the “How often should you?” segment, discussing how frequently they should replace bedding (every 18-24 months), clean the dishwasher (every month), and clean their luggage (after each use).Tuesday’s segment isn’t the first time the hosts’ showering or cleaning habits have sparked a humorous debate. They got into a heated debate on how frequently people should wash their clothing in February, and Roker responded with startled facial expressions as his coworkers discussed their washing habits.

“The average person perspires a cup of sweat every night,” Roker stated during the laundry argument in February.Shower debates on the Today show extend back to 2017 when Roker first mentioned his twice-daily showers during a discussion over whether to shower in the morning or at night.

When Dryer revealed that she takes a 20-minute shower, Roker inquired, “What are you doing in there, a crossword puzzle?”
