A firefighter from California has won nationwide admiration for his comforting act caught on camera at a disastrous car crash site. The accident unfolded near San Diego when a large truck strayed into oncoming traffic, leading to a multi-vehicle collision.

During this chaos, firefighter paramedic Ryan Lopez from the Heartland Fire & Rescue Department took it upon himself to console an unharmed 4-year-old girl while her mother and sister received medical care.

A news camera captured the moving exchange between Lopez and the young child. The footage shows Lopez holding the girl in his arms, gently rocking her back and forth to soothe her.
