What should have been the joyful beginning of a beautiful new life instead turned into a shocking story of death and betrayal in the quiet hills of Shillong in India. On May twenty, businessman Raja Raghuvanshi traveled to the scenic city for his honeymoon with his new wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi. The couple had recently exchanged vows, and their trip was meant to mark the start of a peaceful future together. Instead, only a few days later, Raja was found dead in a remote canyon. His body was already decomposing, and his personal belongings were missing. His identification had been removed, his wedding ring had vanished, and his promising life had come to a brutal end.
At first, investigators suspected that the attacker might have been Raj Kushwaha, a man believed to be Sonam’s secret lover. Suspicion fell on him because of his history with Sonam and the timing of the tragedy. However, as investigators dug deeper, piecing together evidence from hotel logs, call records, and witness accounts, a far darker truth emerged. What they uncovered stunned both police officers and the public. The person behind the crime was not an outsider or a jealous lover. According to the authorities, the mastermind was Raja’s own wife, Sonam.
Investigators now believe that Sonam carefully manipulated Raj with false promises of love and a future together. She reportedly made him believe that eliminating Raja would allow them to be together and offered him the hope of a new life. But she did not stop there. She recruited three additional accomplices named Vishal Singh, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput. According to the police, she promised them large financial rewards in exchange for helping plan and carry out the killing.
Evidence shows that Sonam tracked her husband’s location throughout the trip. She passed this information to the group, guiding them as they prepared to attack. Raja was likely ambushed and pushed into the steep gorge sometime between May twenty three and May twenty four. His wedding ring and identification were removed to delay recognition of the body. While Raja lay in the canyon, Sonam continued to pretend nothing was wrong.
After the killing, Raj returned to Indore believing that he and Sonam would finally be together. But once again, he was deceived. Investigators later discovered that Sonam was secretly involved with a third man. They believe she planned to eliminate Raj as well once he had served his purpose. The betrayal ran even deeper than anyone first imagined.
The breakthrough came when police analyzed the phone records of all involved. The digital trail clearly connected Sonam to the group responsible for the murder. On June eight, she was arrested. During questioning, she confessed to her role in the crime, revealing the disturbing web of manipulation that had led to Raja’s death.
The case has shocked the entire country. What began as a honeymoon turned into a horror story steeped in greed, jealousy, and the ruthless exploitation of trust. Beneath the sacred vow that promised loyalty and love, investigators uncovered a chilling plot driven by personal gain and emotional manipulation. The tragedy of Raja Raghuvanshi now stands as a haunting reminder of how quickly love can be twisted into something unrecognizable when lies and cruelty take its place.
