We sometimes want to learn more about our roots and one way that we do so is through a DNA test. We may also look for more information about our family but you need to know that you aren’t always going to find what you want.

Adriana is a 39 year old woman who came forward in 2014 to share her story. Her mother abandoned her when she was only one year old and she spent a lot of time trying to find her mom.

Her father raised her from the time she was a baby and she learned that her mother’s name was Maria. Eventually, Adriana grew up and got married. They had 3 children together.

After her first marriage ended, she moved back to her hometown. That is where she met Leandro, and the two of them fell in love. Before long, they had a daughter.

When Leandro was 8 years old, he learned that the woman who raised him was actually his stepmom. Like his wife, he was abandoned by his real mom when he was a baby.

Strangely enough, his mother’s name was also Maria, and he did grow up in the same town as Adriana, but they didn’t put two and two together. She said: “We thought it was funny that both our mothers had the same name, but it is a common name so we just thought it was a coincidence.”

One thing that Adriana never lost was a desire to learn more about her birth mom. She enlisted the help of a radio program that specialized in helping people find their lost relatives.

Eventually, she was able to meet her mother and Maria told her that she also had a son who didn’t know she was his mother. It didn’t take long to learn that it was Leandro.

Adriana was shocked and told her mother she couldn’t believe it because Leandro was her husband. Although they had never legally married, they lived as husband and wife.

She said: “Now I’m scared to go home and find out that Leandro doesn’t want me anymore. I love him so much.” But, her fears were unfounded.

She said that only death would separate them because “God wanted it to happen.” She went on to say, “Of course it would have been different if we had known all this before, but we didn’t and we fell in love.”

They made the decision to stay together, despite what others might think. Even though it was shocking at first, they decided that their love was strong and nothing would get in the way of it.
