When somebody who has touched our lives for many years passes away, it’s always a sad moment. That is how many feel now that the word is out about Phil Donahue’s death.

One of the first to speak out about his death is his wife, Marlo Thomas. The rest of the family had already confirmed his death via a statement, but Thomas is now sharing a message on Instagram in which she talks about her husband.

It isn’t only the words that have taken people by surprise, it’s the nostalgic picture of the two of them which she says is a favorite memory of hers. The post occurred on August 19, and tears are flowing.

“Hello, Friends. I’m sure by now you’ve heard the very sad news that I lost my sweetheart last night, so I know you understand that I’ll be stepping away from this page for a while to take care of myself and the many people who took care of Phil, and held him close to their hearts.”

She spoke about taking some time away to heal but she wanted the public to know how grateful she was for all the support she received.

She also thanked the supporters of both her and Phil Donahue for allowing them to share so many special memories together over the years.

In talking about her late husband, she mentioned his love for his audience and how he was happy to be part of the community where they lived.

She said: “I know he would be very touched by the heartwarming thoughts and memories you’ve been sharing.

“I hope that you will continue to hold close those you cherish most, just as I was blessed to do with my beloved Phillip. Love, Marlo,” she said.

She also shared an image of her on a scooter with Phil when they were on vacation. She said that it was one of her favorite photos.

Phil Donahue died on August 18 at 88 years of age. He had endured along interest prior to his passing. We are awaiting more information as to the cause of death.
