Diagnosed with SMARD, a condition that causes muscle weakness, paralysis, and respiratory failure, he was given a devastating prognosis. However, Austin has defied the odds and continues to thrive. Despite relying on a ventilator and a wheelchair since 2003, his positive spirit remains unbroken.
Turning Challenges into Blessings
Rather than seeing his disability as a curse, Austin considers it to be his “biggest blessing.” He shares his inspiring perspective on Live Intrepid, the website of his clothing company. This company not only embodies Austin’s philosophy of living fearlessly and adventurously but also supports awareness and funding for SMARD, a condition that affects only about 100 people worldwide.
A Life Full of Adventures and Love
Austin’s zest for life has taken him to 38 states, where he has pursued his dreams and formed countless meaningful friendships. However, it was through social media that he experienced the most significant turning point in his journey. In 2021, Austin connected with Muckala, a single mom with a three-month-old daughter named Hazel. Their connection was instant and deep. After seven months of dating, Muckala and Hazel joined Austin, and they became a family. In August 2023, Austin and Muckala got married and soon welcomed their twins, Penelope and Poppy.
Triumphs Amidst Adversity
The couple’s heartwarming story touched the hearts of many online, particularly the emotional dance Austin shared with his mother at their wedding. Unfortunately, they also faced undeserved criticism from online trolls, who made baseless accusations about Muckala’s intentions. However, Austin and Muckala chose to focus on their love and their new family, brushing off these negative comments.
