Many people remember Laura Dern because of her roles in shows and movies, but there is another reason why we would remember her as well. In fact, it was big news back in 1999 when it happened and it was a shock to everyone, including Laura.

Laura and Billy Bob Thorton were engaged, and it seemed as if everything was going well. When she went away for work, however, she learned that her partner had run off with Angelina Jolie and got married. This was a real shock to her.

The relationship she had with Billy Bob began in 1997, shortly after she split with Jeff Goldblum. Billy Bob was in the process of getting divorced from his fourth wife and they were engaged after two years together. They were even preparing for a wedding, but Billy Bob ran into Angelina Jolie on a movie set in 1999.

A whirlwind romance began that culminated in a wedding in Las Vegas in May 2000. Laura was totally surprised by what had happened. She said: “I left our home to work on a movie, and while I was away, my boyfriend got married, and I’ve never heard from him again.”

Billy Bob Thorton has never really admitted that he did any wrong but he did say: “Others may say that you left our girl and married someone else. But it made me happy and somebody else happy. I’m sorry it caused pain.”

Something else that many people don’t know is that Laura and Angelina knew each other. Laura had babysat her when they were children.

Eventually, Billy Bob and Angelina would get divorced just two years after getting married. Billy Bob when then retreated and stopped dating celebrities because of privacy. He married a puppeteer in 2014 and is living a quiet life.
