Gary Sinise Loses His 33-Year-Old Son To Rare Form Of Cancer

Many of us are familiar with Gary Sinise, either because of what he does for veterans or because of the role that he played in the movie Forrest Gump. He has done a lot for many people, but now, he is in the news for a different reason.

Unfortunately, the 68-year-old actor is mourning the death of his son. His son, McCanna Anthony ‘Mac’ Sinise passed away at the age of 33 after a long battle with cancer.

Gary’s wife, Moira had been diagnosed with stage III breast cancer and he revealed that his son was diagnosed with Chordoma just a few months later. That is a rare form of cancer that ended up taking his life.

Although Gary’s wife was able to go into remission and stay cancer-free, their son’s health continued to decline.

Mac loved playing the drums and he could often be heard playing with his father’s band until surgery made it impossible for him to play. He passed away on January 5 of this year.

Gary revealed his son’s death in a post, in which he said: “Like any family experiencing such a loss, we are heartbroken and have been managing as best we can.

“As parents, it is so difficult losing a child. My heart goes out to all who have suffered a similar loss, and to anyone who has lost a loved one.

“It’s heartbreaking, and it’s just damn hard. Our family’s cancer fight lasted for five-and-a-half years, and it became more and more challenging as time went on.

“While our hearts ache at missing him, we are comforted in knowing that Mac is no longer struggling, and inspired and moved by how he managed it. He fought an uphill battle against a cancer that has no cure, but he never quit trying.”
