Eight pills that should not be consumed because they affect the kidneys

Although these medications are available in pharmacies, their use can cause pain and impair your body’s natural functioning. These include:

Lithium: Commonly used to treat bipolar disorders

Anticonvulsants: Such as phenytoin and trimethadione

Chemotherapy medications: Especially interferons, pamidronate, cisplatin, carboplatin, cyclosporine, tacrolimus, quinine, mitomycin C, and bevacizumab, which can cause serious kidney damage.

Propylthiouracil, pills for treating thyroid problems.

Pills used for heartburn relief: omeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole, rabeprazole, and esomeprazole.

Antivirals such as acyclovir, which works to treat herpes, and indinavir and tefonovir, which are used to treat HIV.

Captopril, used for high blood pressure.

Bone and joint medications: Infliximab, which treats arthritis, and chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, which treat malaria and systemic lupus erythematosus.
