On a blistering hot day last week in Tennessee, Kaye Fiorello spotted something unusual that gave her pause while traveling down a highway.
About a mile up the road, Fiorello saw the little dog’s head pop up on the side of the road. She was determined to get assistance for the lost dog and knew where to start.

Before Fiorello met the dog, she had seen a highway patrol officer parked just off the road, which she had not minded and driven away at the time. This is the right time to turn back the way she’d come. She told the officer about the dog — not realizing then that she’d change a life forever with that action.
The cop asked where the dog was and took off after her. Fiorello said, “I followed him, pointing out the area.” When they got there, they saw the dog looked afraid and hurt. The dog first hesitated about the officer’s approach, but he regained her confidence by bringing her food and drink. He didn’t, however, stop there.
After approaching animal control for support, he sat by the dog’s side while holding an umbrella to protect her from the scorching sun.

Fiorello was moved to tears as she witnessed his affection for the puppy. “I’m going to sit right here until she trusts me,” the officer said to Fiorello.
Fiorello stated that the dog appeared to perceive the trooper’s kind nature. “She seemed to breathe a happy dog sigh. And those doe eyes — the difference was night and day. They connected. It was powerful. I was crying some happy tears for that girl.”
It turned out that this bond would last a long time.

Before assistance arrived, Fiorello had to continue her trip, but she later discovered that the dog had been successfully rescued and brought to the vet for treatment. She had a broken hip, but she wouldn’t have to deal with it by herself due to the officer was there by her side.

The puppy found a home a week after being discovered injured and abandoned by the side of the road. The policeman decided to stay with her constantly.
“Adopted! He got her today!” Fiorello said. The policeman named her Princess: “she will go home from the vet in a couple, maybe two, weeks.”

Princess’s happy ending couldn’t have been more perfect for Fiorello, whose impulse to get treatment for the hurt puppy resulted in the pup’s entire world changing for the better.
