Kelly Clarkson’s talk show is moving to New York City because “Me and My Kids Needed a Fresh Start”

The singer said, “I’m getting too old to work in a place that isn’t healthy and enjoyable.”

More information is being provided regarding Kelly Clarkson’s motivations for moving her talk show to New York City.

In an interview with Nancy O’Dell on TalkShopLive on Thursday, the singer, 41, spoke openly about the future of The Kelly Clarkson Show, stating that the change was necessary for her and her children, including son Remington “Remy” Alexander, 7, and daughter River Rose, 8.

“I appreciate the question because I haven’t had much opportunity to discuss this. Even back in January, I spoke with my crew. I said, “You guys,” and I was crying because I’ve created a team with such an incredible bunch of individuals,” she said of the program, which will begin its fifth season this autumn and was just extended through 2025.

“We’ve had a lot of success, and I love working with everyone because our relationships are so wonderful. As a result, I spoke with them to let them know what was going on,” continued Clarkson. “Either I can’t continue the show, or I must travel to the East Coast,” she said.

“Covid pointed out [that] being alone and so far away from your family is not good for anyone,” she continued. “And my family is from the East Coast; they are from North Carolina. Many personal issues were going on, so it was one of those things that I had to do.”

With Brandon Blackstock, who she divorced in 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage, Clarkson has two children.

Even though Clarkson said that both emotionally and professionally, things are still being worked out in the background, she added that the move is partly motivated by her desire to avoid working in a setting that “isn’t healthy.”

She said, “I’m becoming too old to work in a place that isn’t joyful and healthy. I didn’t want to do that anymore because I had to do it for years in meetings and dealing with occasionally extremely cruel people. For a moment, I’m focused on the talk show and working on other things concurrently.”

The working atmosphere of the talk show made news earlier this month after a Rolling Stone piece claimed that producers “overworked” and “underpaid” the crew workers, who said that “working at the show was traumatizing to their mental health.”

In a statement posted to Instagram regarding the accusations, Clarkson said: “In my 20 years in the entertainment business, I’ve always led with my heart and what I felt to be right. Finding out that someone feels disregarded or insulted on The Kelly Clarkson Show is unacceptable since I love my crew there.”

“I have always been devoted to establishing and upholding a safe and healthy atmosphere at The Kelly Clarkson Show, and I will continue to be. I am more determined than ever to make sure that both our team that is moving and our new team in New York are the best and kindest in the industry as we get ready to move to the East Coast.”

“All senior personnel, including myself, will receive leadership training for that build. In every firm, there is always space for improvement and ensuring that everyone is being or becoming their best self, particularly when it comes to leadership. To ensure that any idea of poison is eliminated,” the former American Idol contestant said.
