Mom Passes Away and Makes Headlines for Hilarious Obituary She Wrote About Herself

I’ve reached the age that I read obituaries now and then from my hometown if I see a familiar name. I’ve read quite a few at this point but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one like this.

This Canadian woman apparently wrote her own obituary, or at least set down a template she wanted her kids to follow. It’s pretty amusing and it shows that she wanted people to laugh at her life more than mourn her death. In my book, that means she was pretty thoughtful.

After Sybil Hicks passed away, her children published her obituary in the local paper. You get a clue to her personality by the pictures (shown below) she chose to accompany the text.

You can tell what’s coming by the introductory sentence: “It hurts me to admit it… but I, Mrs. Ron Hicks from Baysville, have passed away. From that line and what follows, I’m guessing it a life that was full of smiles and she was always spreading laughter everywhere she went.
