Republican Unveils Stock Trading Ban Mirroring Senate’s ‘PELOSI Act’

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has a long list of achievements, including being the first woman to hold the position and leading historic votes with slim majorities.

But her legacy may be overshadowed by a bipartisan push to ban stock trading by members of Congress and their spouses—legislation ironically named the PELOSI Act.

The act, introduced by Sen. Josh Hawley and Rep. Mark Alford, aims to stop lawmakers from profiting off insider information. It would ban them and their spouses from trading individual stocks, though they could still invest in mutual funds or U.S. Treasury bonds. Violations would result in forfeiting profits and fines.

Pelosi and her husband have long been scrutinized for their stock trades, fueling public distrust. Even prominent Democrats, including Rep. Ro Khanna and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, have voiced support for such reforms. Former President Trump has also said he would sign the bill if it reached his desk.
