Longtime comedian Dane Cook is finally addressing the elephant in the room, the very large age gap between him and his fiancé, Kelsi Taylor.

If you weren’t aware, Cook and Taylor have been dating for the last five years. The couple recently got engaged in August 2022.

However, when it comes to their relationship, people can’t get over how young Taylor was when she and Cook got together. According to reports, Taylor was just 18 when they started dating, Cook was 45.

Now, Cook is 50 and Taylor is 23.

And over the last five years, the public has let Dane Cook know how they feel about the 27-year age gap between him. Many, as BuzzFeed reports, accuse Dane of grooming Kelsi.

In an interview with E! Online, Cook broached the topic of their large age gap. “We have a bit of an age difference, so it’s in the show, it’s in the show,” he told the publication. “If we can’t laugh at it, then nobody else is allowed.”

Cook, who is preparing for his newest comedy special, Dane Cook: Above It All, continued by telling E! that he talks all about the age gap and his future with Taylor in his special. He went on to say that he’s tested out all his material on Kelsi before sharing it with the public.

“I was just trying some material out on her the other day where I was like, ‘Hey, I think I have maybe my first what it’s like to be married joke,’” he explained. “So, she got the exclusive. We tried it out and she said, ‘I approve of that. That’s a good one.’”

Cook premiered his special earlier this week. He shared photos of himself and Kelsi on the red carpet.

“When we pull up you know it’s a shut down. @itskelsitaylor & I attending the world premiere of ‘Above It All’ at the acclaimed @chinesetheatres Tuesday night. Without Kelsi by my side this night would have not felt as meaningful. We had so many laughs with friends and fans celebrating this comedy event. We have our own adventures planned for the rest of the year but this night together is a highlight of not only our relationship but a moment to reflect and be grateful for the opportunity to do what I love.”

While his special will be one of the first times Cook talked about their age gap, at length, he did mention it once before while a guest on Jimmy Fallon, BuzzFeed reported. “My girlfriend and I, we get a lot of crap from people because we have an age difference,” he said.

“I’m 46, and she’s 20. I love her, she’s the kindest, sweetest. She’s my favorite, my best friend.” He went on to joke, “Once in a while, I’ll say to myself: Where have you been all of my life? And then I realize she wasn’t alive for the first 28 years of it.”

The couple first announced their engagement on August 2, 2022.
