Texas Man Sentenced for Assaulting Border Patrol Agent Amid Increased Immigration Crackdowns

A Mexican national, Carlos Ernesto Guerrero-Gutierrez, was sentenced to 46 months in prison for assaulting three U.S. Border Patrol agents in El Paso.

In November 2023, while being held at a processing facility, he attacked agents with a nail-covered board, injuring two and biting another. After resisting arrest, he was subdued with a taser.

Guerrero-Gutierrez pleaded guilty on May 6, 2024, to three counts of assault on federal officers.

Authorities emphasized their commitment to protecting law enforcement and holding violent offenders accountable.

The case was investigated by the FBI and U.S. Border Patrol and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stanley Serwatka.
