Second child di es five days after woman allegedly sent ‘poisoned Easter eggs’ to ex’s family in ‘revenge’ plot

A heartbreaking tragedy has unfolded in Brazil after a 13-year-old girl died just days following the death of her seven-year-old brother—both allegedly poisoned by chocolate Easter eggs sent as an act of revenge. The chocolates were reportedly given to their mother, Mirian Lira, by a woman named Jordélia Pereira Barbosa, who attached a note saying, “With love, to Mirian Lira. Happy Easter.” Mirian unknowingly shared the chocolate with her children,

resulting in her son Luis falling critically ill and dying shortly after. Days later, her daughter Evelyn Silva also succumbed to complications described as vascular shock and multiple organ failure. Mirian, who was also hospitalized, remains in stable condition. The seemingly innocent Easter gift quickly turned into a horrific nightmare—but what investigators uncovered next makes this story even more chilling…

Police arrested Barbosa, who was allegedly motivated by jealousy over her ex-boyfriend now dating Mirian. She was caught on a bus with a receipt for the Easter eggs and several suspicious items, including wigs and a saw knife. CCTV footage reportedly shows her disguised in a black wig while purchasing the chocolate. Although she admitted to buying the eggs, Barbosa denies poisoning them.

Authorities, however, claim this was not her first attempt—she had previously tried to distribute chocolates at Mirian’s workplace but was turned away. Brazilian officials believe the motive was revenge, and the case has shocked the nation with its disturbing level of premeditation. As investigations continue, the deaths of two innocent children serve as a devastating reminder of how far some will go when fueled by jealousy and hatred.
