I Refuse to Sacrifice My Happiness to Save My Grandson

I’m a 72-year-old widow, and I’ve been saving up for years to go on a cruise trip with my sister. Recently, my 8-year-old grandson got gravely ill. The treatments are costly, and they want me to contribute my savings.
I said, “Sorry, but I will not sacrifice my happiness. I’m old, and this might be the last time trip that I could afford.” I was called a horrible mom, and my son declared, “From now on, you’re not allowed to ever see your grandkid.” I was taken aback by his abrupt and harsh decision. But my son smirked and added, “This will be the last time you see me or my family. Hope your trip is truly worth it.” Was my decision selfish? Am I not allowed to enjoy life a little with the money that I’ve been saving for years? Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Yours, Betty
