My grandmother refused to make repairs for 15 years; she doesn’t have much time left. But for her 80s, we got her room in order.

80 years old grandma refused to renovate her old house for 15 years, saying that she doesn’t have long time left. However her grandchildren surprised. When she entered the house she was speechless. She was only crying from happiness…

She’s been like that with us, for as long as I can remember, she kept lamenting that she didn’t have long left. Whatever you offer, right away, why would she need it, she will soon be gone. I was sad when my grandfather passed away; he passed away completely young, right after 50.

Fortunately, grandma, although she doesn’t plan to live long, is trying to enjoy life to the fullest: she’s always disappearing somewhere with her friends, she’s not averse to buying a new hat, she enjoys tinkering around the dacha.

Anything so that she will be remembered as beautiful and with a kind word.

So, with lamentations, she lived to see the anniversary. And for 15 years now we have been persuading her to repair it. At first she insisted that everything would be as it was under grandfather. Then she agreed that her grandfather would have forced her to do the repairs, it was high time. But she stated:

– Why will you invest in my repairs if then you have to redo everything for yourself? I’ll live as long as I have left, and then do whatever you want.

Little by little we talked her into at least making a kitchen, so that it would be safe, light and comfortable. Secretly from my grandmother (they sent her to a sanatorium), they cleaned up the bathroom.

And now, citing new standards and fines, they persuaded her to change the radiators in the apartment, begged her to at the same time agree to beautiful suspended ceilings and at least give up fresh linoleum. We beg grandma to accept the new furniture, but all we demanded was to change the wallpaper that she once glued with her grandfather. They are finally faded and peeling enough.
We scraped away this ancient splendor, plastered and primed the walls.

Then they raked out the trash from the apartment. Quietly, they checked the wiring and moved switches here and there to a more convenient location.

We went over the shadows with putty, first the base putty, then the finishing putty, and applied the base. It’s a shame that we couldn’t come to an agreement with the neighbors on the riser, but we finally replaced grandma’s radiators.

When the walls were completely dry, we sanded them, painted the ceiling and decorated it with ceiling plinths.

The wallpaper we chose was reliable, vinyl on a non-woven backing. We decided that it would be modern and fresh if we made only one wall patterned, and the rest were plain.

And then a miracle happened. Grandma may be holding on to the old cabinets in memory of Grandpa (and not even moving them, since the flooring was cut for them), but she agreed to a new sofa! And she didn’t regret it, now her darling is happy, and we are calmer for her.
