Selena Gomez recently shared truly heartbreaking baby news, opening up about her dreams of becoming a mother and the challenges she faces due to her health.

In a heartfelt interview, the 32-year-old singer and actress shared sad baby news.

“Selena, your strength is inspiring. Whatever path you choose, you are loved and supported,” one commenter pens.

Another adds: “Selena would make a great mother no matter how she chooses to become one if she so chooses.”

While a third writes: “You can still have a family! There are other ways and you would be an amazing Mom! You can see it by watching you with your sister!”

The Spring Breakers star shared that carrying her own child would put her life, as well as the baby’s, at significant risk.

Consequently, Gomez has turned her focus toward adoption and surrogacy as her likely options to achieve her dream of parenthood.

The actress, widely known for her role in Only Murders in the Building, spoke with Vanity Fair for its October issue, addressing this deeply personal topic.

She admitted: “I haven’t ever said this but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”

The journey, she noted, was difficult and required time to process.

Gomez shared that it was hard to accept at first, given that she had envisioned her life differently.

This desire to have children is something she has expressed in the past, but facing the reality of her health made her reimagine what her path to motherhood could look like.

In her interview, Gomez said that her condition has led her to find strength and resilience, especially when considering alternative ways to build a family.

Her health concerns stem partly from her battle with lupus, an autoimmune disease she has openly discussed over the years.

She has undergone a kidney transplant and continues to manage other health complications related to her condition.

While lupus doesn’t always prevent pregnancy, in her case, it would pose enough risk that doctors advised against it, helping her arrive at her decision.

“It’s not necessarily how I envisioned things,” Gomez explained, “but I’m in a much better place about it now.”

Despite the initial disappointment, Gomez said she feels ‘thankful’ for the options available today for individuals in her situation.

She expressed particular gratitude for ‘wonderful people’ who open their hearts to adoption or surrogacy, saying she considers these options ‘a blessing.’

She reflected on how these avenues provide a way to fulfill her dreams, as well as the dreams of others who, like her, are ‘dying to be moms.’

These alternatives have given Gomez a renewed sense of hope, and she is ‘excited’ for the future, even if the journey ‘will look a little different’ from what she had initially imagined.

Her reflection on family extends beyond her own plans, touching on her bond with her mother, Mandy Teefey, who was also adopted.

Gomez shared that this connection makes her feel even more certain of her decision, as both she and her mother are ‘very thankful’ for how life unfolded.

Having witnessed the beauty and impact of adoption in her own family, she feels confident that the path will be meaningful for her as well.

The actress also revealed that, prior to her relationship with producer Benny Blanco, she had set a personal goal to start a family by the age of 35.

Her introspection has only reinforced her belief that family is ‘the most important thing’ in life, solidifying her resolve to embrace whatever form her journey to parenthood might take.

For Gomez, the end result remains the same: “At the end of the day,” she said, her child “will still be [her] baby.”
