Whale Watchers Are Astounded When The Dolphins Show Up

Whale watching is a pastime that not everybody has an opportunity to do. If you happen to be in an area that allows you to do it, it is certainly something you should attempt.

When you are whale watching, the thing that you are especially looking for is a whale to come by your area. It could be any type of whale, but sometimes, you may even get a surprise.

That is what happened when Gone Whale Watching, a San Diego tour company took some people out for an encounter. They were able to see some whales, but it was the Dolphins that stole the show.

The captain, Erica Sackrison said that it’s been a great summer for spotting aerobic offshore bottlenose dolphins. Today, they were able to capture them doing what they do best and you can see it in this video posted on Instagram.

It’s easy to see why they are calling it the greatest dolphin show in the world because it is one that happens in the wild. The video was captured by Erica, who is also a photographer.

Erica said: “You could just see them jumping like, 20 feet in the air, and everybody on the boat just started pointing and I’m like, what is everybody looking at? Almost feels like they were doing Olympic-style jumps, like they were just all trying to be like Simone Biles and just touch the sky and come down. It was awesome.”

On that particular day, the tourists who were out well watching got to see a lot more dolphins than usual. The photographer even said that they saw large groups of dolphins every few miles in the water.

The founder of Gone Whale Watching, Domenic Biagini feels that they are probably coming to the area because it is a great source of food.

He said: “Anchovies are really, really popular food source, especially for the common dolphins. But we’ve also been seeing bottlenose dolphins in bigger numbers, and the bottlenose dolphins are the ones that you see in those spectacular videos, leaping into the air. And often times when we see bottlenose dolphins here in numbers like that, it’s because there’s a lot of squid in San Diego waters.

“So most likely, we have an influx of squid right now.”

It doesn’t matter why they were seeing the dolphins, the fact that they were fortunate enough to be there and took some video is amazing for all of us.
