The Moment A Bee Almost Ruined An Olympic Archer’s Shot

One of the Olympic games that does not often get the attention it deserves is archery. It’s a sport that requires a significant amount of skill and people practice for many years to be part of an Olympic team.

Some interesting things happened in the archery match this year at the Olympics. Athlete Kim Je-deok was trying to shoot a perfect shot but he had a problem that could not have been anticipated ahead of time.

Despite the fact that he had to concentrate in order to make the perfect shot, a bee landed on the back of his hand. It was during the archery team event on Monday at the Paris Olympics. He was competing for South Korea in a semi-final against China.

The bee was bothering the archery team for South Korea. It would be unfortunate for years of training to go down the tubes just because of a chance encounter with a bee.

During the first set, there was a score of 54 points and South Korea was making a comeback during the second and third sets. If Je-deok was able to make the shot, he would not been the final for South Korea.

Je-deok only had two errors remaining and the score was 36-53. When he was preparing for a shot a bee started the buzz around him and he waved it away but then it landed on his right hand.

Despite the fact that the bee landed, he was able to shoot a perfect 10. His teammate, Kim Woo-jin followed up with another good shot to secure their spot in the final.

Eventually, the Korean archers won over France and claimed the gold medal. When they asked the archer about the incident later, he said:

“As I approached the shooting line, a bee appeared,” the athlete explained.

“I shooed it away but it followed me. When it landed on my hand, I reminded myself, ‘This is the Olympics,’ and I couldn’t lower my arms. I had a strong determination to shoot.”
