There have been many musicians that have graced the world with their abilities over the years. Some of them are still well known down to this day, and we still love their music decades after it was first performed.

One musician that has had a particular impact that is undeniable is John Lennon. He was known for many of his songs and the work that he did when he played with the Beatles, but his song Imagine was one that was close to many of our hearts.

Unfortunately, John Lennon’s life was ended early but he left behind a legacy in his son, Julian. Interestingly, Julian has said that he would never perform Imagine. He did feel that the world needed those words and the music, but he would only perform it if the world was coming to an end.

The 59-year-old decided that the time had come for him to perform the song publicly, however, as part of the 2022 Global Citizen’s Stand Up for Ukraine. That campaign is aiming to assist those who are fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.

Julian spoke about the ‘unimaginable tragedy’ in Ukraine and decided to respond in the most significant way he could.

“The song reflects the light at the end of the tunnel, that we are all hoping for…” he wrote. “As a result of the ongoing murderous violence, millions of innocent families, have been forced to leave the comfort of their homes, to seek asylum elsewhere.”

More than 4.5 million people have fled the country since the end of February and are refugees. During the global fundraiser where Julian sang the immortal song, more than $10 billion was pledged to assist the refugees.

Julian, who is John Lennon’s son with his first wife, Cynthia Lennon is calling on people to help more than just the Ukrainian refugees, he wants help for anyone seeking a better life.

“I’m calling on world leaders and everyone who believes in the sentiment of IMAGINE, to stand up for refugees everywhere! Please advocate and donate from the heart.”
