Contestant Adam Goodell correctly solved the puzzle, but the phrase involving “Italian sausage” became the real talking point.

As viewers caught its possible double meaning, host Pat Sajak responded, “Uh… it’s a grilling expression.”

The clarification grounded the answer in cooking, yet clips circulating online inspired a very different conversation.

Some viewers called the wording inappropriate for a program watched by families, while others treated the moment as an unexpectedly funny bit of television.

On Twitter, one commenter joked about inviting a date to “brush up on my Italian sausage.

” Another defended the phrase’s ordinary culinary meaning, pushing back against the suggestive interpretation. That divide captured the reaction: discomfort for some, harmless amusement for others.

Nothing in the exchange established that the puzzle was intended as an adult joke.

Instead, a food-related answer became a reminder that even familiar television can take an awkward turn when audiences supply their own interpretation.
