Self-Service Checkout Leaves Customers Angry And Confused After Asking For A Tip

There are many things that tend to get people up in arms, but the subject of tipping is one that really makes a difference in most cases. Some people don’t mind it and other people hate it, but very few are going to agree on the subject.

This is especially trouble in these days when it seems as if tipping has gone off the charts. In the United States, it is expected that you would tip for services and sometimes, you are tipping on top of tipping. There is even such a thing that is known as tip fatigue.

One of the ways in which this has been seen recently is at the self checkout counter. More than likely, you are familiar with this register, as you go up and check yourself out rather than having somebody do it for you.

It would seem as if there wouldn’t even be a tip necessary for a self checkout line, but there is a self checkout machine in the United States that is now asking for tips.

It seems as if many people are confused over the prompt for giving a tip at a self-service line. It happened that the Petco Park in San Diego, and after you check out, and asks you for a tip.

The person that they interviewed said that he was confused because he didn’t know who he was tipping but he ended up giving 20%. Others, however, are referred to as emotional blackmail and they say there is no way they are giving the tip after doing all the work themselves.

According to the spokesperson for the store, the tips that are given at the self checkout counter are distributed among the employees.

In the United States, it is customary to tip and it is more than just a nice gesture, it is essential for those who are working in those services. Some restaurants will allow the waiter or bartender to keep the tip entirely for themselves but others have to put it in a pot to be distributed among the employees.

I’m not sure how you feel about this, but it sure is something to be debated.
