Things You Should Never Plug Into a Power Strip

Most homes rely on power strips without a second thought, yet many of the devices we casually plug in were never meant to share that small plastic bar. Major appliances like refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners demand their own dedicated circuits; forcing them through a strip invites overheating and possible fire. The same danger applies to space heaters, electric grills, and other high‑wattage tools and kitchen gadgets that generate intense heat and heavy current spikes.

Risk multiplies when strips are daisy‑chained together, or when sensitive, critical equipment like aquariums and medical devices depend on them. A single failure can mean lost pets, damaged electronics, or a life‑threatening interruption in care. The safest rule is simple: low‑power items such as lamps, phone chargers, and computers belong on power strips; anything that heats, cools, or keeps you alive belongs directly in the wall.
