87-Year-Old Julie Andrews Makes A Rare Appearance In Public And People Can’t Get Past One Thing

We would have a hard time finding anyone who didn’t know Julie Andrews and at least one of the roles she played in her lifetime. She has done more in Hollywood than most people, and she is still remembered for it down to this day.

People certainly do remember Julie Andrews but she hasn’t been as visible as many other stars in Hollywood. She tends to stay secluded, but at 87 years old, she did make a public appearance.

When Julie Andrews was born, she was almost destined to be a star. Her parents were vaudeville performers, and from a very young age, she seemed to be made for acting.

She certainly did follow that life and ended up winning an Academy Award for her part in Mary Poppins. She said that it was something new in her life that she had never done before but for Walt Disney, they couldn’t help but cast her because of the vaudeville quality of the songs.

She went on to say: “I think it’s what attracted me to the role, because all that kind of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and Jolly Holiday music was very much like the kind of things that you hear in English vaudeville.”

Disney was able to break many records with Mary Poppins and in 1964, it was the highest-grossing film. 13 nominations also came in for Academy Awards.

Her husband at the time, Tony Walton, was also a big part in choosing her outfits when she was Mary Poppins. He tried to keep things more uniform in look but she wanted to be ‘very formal on the outside and a little bit wicked on the inside.’

She also played on The Sound of Music and on the Bridgerton series on Netflix. In the latter, however, she only voiced as a narrator and did not appear on camera.

When they asked if she wanted a role on camera, she simply said ‘No, no, no.’ She went on to say: “You know who Lady Whistledown really is, so I’m afraid it stays with me in the background. But I’m very happy to do that.”

Recently, she made an appearance at the Sag Harbor farmers’ market in The Hamptons on Long Island, New York. She was carrying a cane, and picking up flowers and two boxes of dark chocolate cookies.

As a very stylish individual, she wore the right clothing for the part. This included a gray long-sleeved shirt and a white scarf around her neck. She was a thing of beauty.

People agreed that she looked good and as ‘lovely as ever.’ We wish her many more years of life and happiness.
