It is not always easy to be a teacher. One teacher who understands this very well is Laura Morris, an educator who worked at Luckett’s elementary school in Leesburg, Virginia.

Laura had gone before the school board to tell them why she had decided to give up teaching. The Virginia teacher made the statement, resigning, and doing so through tears.

In a statement, she said that she was resigning due to emphasis that was being placed on equity trainings and political doctrines that existed within the district. She said that her ideals could no longer align with an organization that wanted to hold back “white, Christian, able-bodied females.”

Morris had worked for the school district for five years before resigning. She was becoming disillusioned with the system and how the agendas didn’t seem to align. She also didn’t appreciate how the children were not being kept from the issue.

The debate really started because of the teaching of Critical Race Theory (CRT). It has caused a lot of tension, especially at school board meetings and people have even been arrested because of the heated exchanges.

Some people feel that it is important to teach critical race theory because it helps students to understand the racial history of the United States. Others, however, have different opinions.
