Critics Attack Martha Stewart For Killing Her Pet Chickens For Food

Martha Stewart, the renowned chef, television personality, and lifestyle guru, recently found herself at the center of a heated online debate after disclosing her unique approach to feeding her beloved dogs. Stewart, aged 82, shared on her Instagram account her process of creating homemade dog food, which includes unconventional ingredients like deer meat and roosters. While she may have intended to showcase her commitment to providing nutritious meals for her canine companions, her revelations triggered mixed reactions and sparked intense discussions on social media.

In her Instagram post, Stewart began by detailing her dedication to crafting wholesome farm-to-bowl food for her four dogs: two French Bulldogs named Creme Brulee and Bete Noire and two Chow Chows, Emperor Han and Empress Qin. She explained that her homemade dog food recipe consists of various ingredients, such as vegetables, quinoa, salmon carcasses, chicken, and deer meat. However, it was her revelation about the source of the deer meat that ignited controversy. Stewart admitted that she had slaughtered a buck that had taken refuge on her farm a year ago. The deer had apparently found its way onto her property and had been living there since. This revelation didn’t sit well with many social media users, who expressed outrage and concern for the animal that had trusted Stewart’s property as a safe haven.Critics on social media labeled Stewart as “ruthless,” “savage,” and even “disturbing” for using an animal that had sought refuge on her farm as a source of dog food. They argued that the deer, having found shelter on Stewart’s property, should have been treated with more compassion.

Moreover, Stewart’s disclosure that she also harvested her roosters for the dog food raised eyebrows. She referred to the roosters as “such good friends” in her Instagram post, prompting some to question the ethics of slaughtering animals she considered as companions. In her post, Stewart detailed the extensive process of creating her homemade dog food. She mentioned slow-cooking the cubed deer meat, poaching the old roosters, and obtaining fresh salmon carcasses from a local seafood restaurant. She also described preparing vegetables like potiron pumpkin and roasted sweet potatoes. All these ingredients were combined and processed to create a substantial quantity of dog food, approximately 44 quarts. To accompany her Instagram post, Stewart shared a series of photos depicting each step of the dog food preparation process. Images showcased vegetables simmering in broth, ingredients in a large mixing bowl, and the final product ready for storage in the freezer.

The online debate surrounding Martha Stewart’s unconventional approach to dog food highlights the complexities of personal choices when it comes to animal consumption. While Stewart’s intentions may have been to provide her dogs with nutritious meals, the ethical considerations surrounding her use of animals that had sought refuge on her property have ignited a passionate discussion about the treatment of animals and our responsibilities as stewards of the environment. As the debate rages on, it serves as a reminder of the diverse perspectives and values that shape discussions about our relationship with animals, food sources, and ethical choices in the modern world.
