Trump’s ex-terrorism chief makes dramatic claim about who really killed Charlie Kirk

In a move that has ignited a firestorm within the U.S. intelligence community, Joe Kent, the recently resigned Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), has gone public with explosive allegations surrounding the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Kirk, a prominent 31-year-old conservative strategist and key ally to the Trump administration, was assassinated on September 10, 2025, while addressing a crowd at Utah Valley University. The shooting, which occurred from a rooftop roughly 410 feet away, initially triggered a massive manhunt before 22-year-old Tyler Robinson surrendered to authorities 36 hours later.

While the legal case against Robinson has proceeded swiftly toward a death penalty trial, Kent’s recent departure from the NCTC has brought a jarring new perspective to the investigation’s closure.

Claims of a Stymied Investigation
Just one day after announcing his resignation on X (formerly Twitter) in protest of the ongoing war with Iran, Kent appeared on The Tucker Carlson Show to voice his concerns. The former Green Beret and veteran intelligence official claimed that federal efforts to probe deeper into Kirk’s death were prematurely halted.

“The investigation that I was a part of—the National Counterterrorism Center was a part of—we were stopped from continuing to investigate,” Kent alleged during the broadcast. “Charlie Kirk was killed publicly in a very horrific way, and we’re not really even allowed to look into that at all.”

While Robinson was charged as a lone gunman, Kent suggested the narrative may be incomplete. He hinted at “unanswered questions” and “linkage” that he claimed were ignored when the FBI reportedly handed the reins of the investigation over to local Utah authorities.

Rebuttal from the Intelligence Community
The response from the federal establishment was swift and dismissive. While the FBI officially declined to comment on Kent’s specific allegations, anonymous law enforcement sources have painted a different picture of his tenure at the NCTC.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, a senior law enforcement source characterized Kent’s claims as speculative and devoid of evidence. The source alleged that in the early stages of the Kirk investigation, Kent frequently entered meetings suggesting Iranian involvement without providing intelligence to back the theory.

“He would walk into meetings… and speculate that Iran had killed Charlie,” the source claimed. “And when asked for evidence, he had none.”

A Final Warning in the West Wing
Beyond the procedural disputes, Kent shared a personal and haunting memory of his final interaction with Kirk. The 45-year-old recalled a chance encounter in the West Wing of the White House in June 2025, just months before the shooting.

“The last time I saw Charlie Kirk on this earth was… in the stairway,” Kent said. “And I said hi to him, and he looked me in the eye and said very loudly… ‘Joe, stop us from getting into a war with Iran.’”

As the nation navigates a widening regional conflict in the Middle East and the fallout of a high-profile political assassination, Kent’s transition from a core member of the national security apparatus to a vocal outsider ensures that the debate over Charlie Kirk’s legacy—and the truth behind his death—is far from over.
