22-Year-Old Utah State Football Player Has Died

The death of anyone is always going to be a sad occasion but when it is a young person who passes away, it seems to be especially difficult. Unfortunately, many people are now feeling the loss because of the death of a young Utah State football cornerback.

Andre Seldon Jr died on July 20, 2024. The reason why the football star passed away was due to drowning and he was only 22 years old at the time of his death.

The local County Sheriff’s report stated that a search on Saturday afternoon took place at the Porcupine Reservoir. Sheldon was cliff diving at the time and he didn’t resurface after going into the water. After the search, his body was recovered by the Utah Department of Public Safety Dive Team at 9:05 in the evening.

A statement was posted by Utah State and the athletic director, Diana Sabau. It said: “Our Utah State University Athletics family is devastated over the sudden death of Andre Seldon Jr. We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who loved Andre.”

Sheldon had already gone through four college football seasons and was preparing for his fifth. For his first two years, he was at the University of Michigan and then he spent two years at New Mexico State. His first season with Utah State was to begin in 2024.

The Utah State football coach, Nate Dreiling said: “Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own. Having had a previous relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you he was an incredible person and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre’s family as we grieve with them over this tremendous loss.”

Sheldon had always demonstrated a natural talent for football. He wasn’t the typical size of a defensive back, but he had the speed and agility necessary to play the part.

We are going to miss this young man. May he rest in peace.
