Baggage Handler Warns Against Tying Ribbons on Suitcases

When traveling, people often decorate their luggage to make it easy to spot. However, a baggage handler at Dublin Airport, John, warns that this can cause problems.

John explains, “Ribbons people tie onto their suitcases to help identify them can cause issues with the bag being scanned in the baggage hall. If the bag can’t be scanned automatically, it can end up in manual processing, which could mean your bag doesn’t make it to the flight.” He also advises travelers to remove old stickers from their bags as they can confuse the scanning process.

Additionally, John shares tips for a stress-free travel experience. He suggests placing suitcases wheels up to avoid damage. Importantly, he warns against packing marzipan, explaining that it has the “same density” as some explosives and could lead to thorough searches, potentially causing delays.

For a smoother journey, it’s best to avoid tying ribbons on your suitcase and leaving marzipan at home.
