They sometimes say that birds of a feather flock together and I think we have all seen evidence of this in our lives in some way or another. It does seem as if it is easier to get along with someone who is close to you and the things that you like.

There is another saying that sometimes fits in very well, as it talks about strange bedfellows. It is the opposite of birds of a feather, and if the situation is right, it can work very well.

We recently saw evidence of that online when a story was shared about pets that grew up in neighboring homes and fell in love with each other. The most interesting part of the story is the fact that one was a dog and the other was a cat.

Every day, they would look out the windows and stare at each other from across the yard. It was a habit they seemed to enjoy but unfortunately, the cat’s owner did something that broke up the relationship.

Potted plants were put on the windowsill where the cat loved to sit and the dog couldn’t see his beloved any longer. It seems like it would be the end of the love story, but it gets even better.

The dog was depressed about not being able to see the cat and the owner realized what was going on. She went over and taped a note to the neighbor’s window that is truly heartbreaking.

It said:

“Dear Neighbor,

“This is going to seem ridiculous, but I thought you should know that my dog (who lives next door with me) is madly in love with your cat… and has ben for probably 6 months! Three times a day, he puts his paws on our railing to look at him/her in your windowsill. Now that you have potted plants there, he is heartbroken… but keeps looking for your cat every time. Maybe your plants could switch to a different window??!
-From your neighbor and her adoring dog”

When the cat owner saw the note, she moved the potted plants and left a note of her own that said “For True Love!”

Finally, they were able to see each other and now they spend their days looking longingly across the yard at their beloved.
