If you spend any time watching tennis, you probably heard of Martina Navratilova. Many people consider her to be one of the greatest players ever on the tennis court.
When you look down at the achievements that she has to her name, it is truly impressive. Nine times, she has received Wimbledon titles. She’s ranked number one for 332 weeks. She has 59 grand slam titles and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall Of Fame in 2000.
Even if you never had the opportunity to see her on the court. You have likely heard her as a TV tennis analyst at this time.
Unfortunately, she gave us news that is rather distressing. A diagnosis has come in of both throat and breast cancer.
The tennis star found a lump on her neck two months ago and noticed she had an enlarged lymph node in her neck as well. When they did a biopsy, they found it was early-stage throat cancer.
During the time that she was going through tests on her throat, they found breast cancer, which is unrelated.
66-year-old Navratilova said: “This double whammy is serious but still fixable, and I’m hoping for a favorable outcome. It’s going to stink for a while but I’ll fight with all have I got.”
In 2010, she was previously diagnosed with breast cancer and had the cancer cells removed. She also received radiation treatments.
Navratilova is expected to begin treatments within the month for the recent cancer diagnosis.
