There are always going to be differences from one generation to another. We often refer to it as a generation gap, but however you look at it, the changes do exist.

Gen Z is the group of individuals who were part of the generation that was born from the mid-1990s until the mid-2010s. That’s just a rough estimation of the gap, but they are often referred to as Gen Z if they fit into that age range.

Sometimes, those who belong to the Gen Z generation can step on the toes of those who are part of the older generation. This includes one person who refused to get up and go to an 8 AM meeting because he had a workout class.

After it showed up on TikTok on the Demoted podcast, it began gaining traction right away. A lot of controversy surrounded this decision, especially whether it was proper for a Gen Z employee to dictate when they would go to a meeting. They also wondered if it was okay to prioritize working out over a job.

One of the posts of the podcast, Natalie, couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She said: “You just started this job. I don’t give a flying s*** about your workout class. Also, an 8 a.m. workout class is too late. Work out at six, maybe seven.”

Her partner, Ross, agreed with her when he said: “My visceral reaction was are you f***ing kidding me? My hand’s shaking, and it’s not from the caffeine.”

The hosts of the podcast talked about the importance of mental health and personal time but they also agreed that being responsible with your work activities was important as well.

Ross said: “To monopolize your calendar for things that I would consider to be personal time, that’s gonna be a ‘no’ for me dog.” Natalie agreed when she added: “You’re not really allowed to do that when you’re first starting your career I’m sorry.”

It would seem like a very straightforward subject but there was a lot of controversy in the comments section. Some people were saying the worker was a hero for taking a stand on his work-life balance. Others backed up the feelings of the podcast hosts.

I guess this debate will continue.
